Happy Campers was founded in 2009 by Herdis and Sverrir and is first and foremost a family business. We’re a family that believes that traveling should be a simple, easy, and fun experience, not a hassle. Making that a reality for all the happy campers that come through our doors is our primary goal and the reason we show up to work every day.
“The Happy hipster”
If Herdís didn’t have the “Happy golfer” title already, it would’ve gone to Aron. He’s a seriously talented golfer and is about to finish his Master’s degree in sports science. Poets write about his legendary beard and you can’t help but to like the guy.
“The Happy dude”
David is just a happy go lucky kind of guy that will find any opportunity to reveal his sarcastic humor. There’s nothing that this man can’t do and he’s been responsible for everything from fleet management to customer service.
“Ms. Happy Excel”
As our bookkeeper, Elín makes sure that all of our numbers add up. When things get a bit hectic at the office, we can rely on Elín to keep things calm and under control. Spending time with her grandchildren and exploring the countryside make her a happy camper.
“The Happy student”
Haukur is the youngest son and works part-time while working hard at the University of Reykjavik. He’s a talented guitar player and is not afraid of busting out guitar solos randomly. That automatically makes him cool as a cucumber.
“The Happy golfer”
Herdís is the co-founder and CFO of Happy Campers. She is also a professional tour guide, a board member for the Association of Women Business Leaders in Iceland, and has a serious case of the golf bug.
“The Happy baller”
Jón is Sverrir and Herdís’ second oldest son and he literally runs the place, taking care of daily operations at the office. His 197 cm are put to good use on the basketball court, where he plays for the local basketball club.
Lea is a Canadian travel & food enthusiast who now calls Iceland home. As a Happy Camper, she loves writing about her experiences and can’t wait to share her thoughts and opinions with you. If you don’t run into her chasing the Northern Lights or eating her favourite ice cream, you’ll probably find her ice skating or playing with the cats of Reykjavík!
Michael Ryan is a Happy Writer. Born and raised in New York, he relocated to Iceland in 2016 to chase some funny lights in the sky and meet a few "hidden people." He still hasn't found any, but is determined to circle every stone until he does. When he's not on an adventure, you can find him eating tons of craft chocolate and drinking espresso in a comfy chair somewhere in Reykjavik.
“The Happy mechanic”
Pawel makes sure that your camper van is ready to go when you start your trip. You can hear him laughing from miles away and he’s the most optimistic guy you’ll find. There’s nothing this man can’t fix and we would be lost without this Polish charmer.
“The Happy boss”
Sverrir was the first Icelander to ride his motorcycle around the world. That should sum up his passion for travel and adventure perfectly. He founded Happy Campers with his wife Herdís and is our CEO, but we prefer to call him “the Happy boss”.
“The Happy geek”
Þorsteinn (Thor) takes great pride in being a total computer, photography, and marketing geek. When he's not geeking out, he's driving around Iceland in a Happy Camper taking photographs. Coffee and Photoshop make him a happy camper.
