Latrabjarg Bird Cliffs

Látrabjarg is a large cliff and the westernmost point in Iceland. Látrabjarg is the bird watchers paradise and is known for its rich birdlife. It’s the home to a variety of bird species, such as puffins, northern gannets, guillemots, and razorbills. If you have ever wanted to visit one of Europe’s largest bird cliff, this is your chance. Along with the Westman Islands, this is one of the easiest places to catch a glimpse of puffins. If you’ve seen some amazing closeup shots of puffins on Instagram, chances are they were shot here.

Just make sure not to get too close to the edge! Follow warning signs and more importantly, use common sense when trying to get that perfect shot of the birds.

The Location:

How to get there?

Látrabjarg is located in the Westfjords. It is approximately a six hour drive from Reykjavík, but definitely worth the drive. Drive on road 60 into the Westfjords until you get to the town Flokalundur. There, turn onto road 62 until you reach Patreksfjörður fjord. Make a left onto road 612 and drive until you reach Látrabjarg.
